Mt. Baker LBS 2013

February 14, 2013

The Ketchum Contingent jumped in the Smith Optics Van and sent it to Mt. Baker for the 28th Annual Legendary Banked Slalom.   Great conditions prevailed with 2+ ft of fresh snow in days prior and bluebird skies for the race. We all gave it our best on the grueling 1:33 sec nautral halfpipe gully course with powder banked turns and ruts that could swallow you whole.  Some dudes laid down flawless runs, some scrubbed speed getting bit by the snow snakes, and some tomahawked around the gates.  The course was a challenging leg and lung burner.  Fighting to stay flight on our edges, remembering to breathe, all the while patiently riding the high line of the berm without getting tempted to cut inside.  We also managed to get some great side country pow turns in between course runs by hiking up the boot pack out of bounds into untracked Powder fields.  Mt Baker is a classic old Mom and Pop resort that knows how to serve up a fresh Salmon BBQ, some great mico brew beers, and a rad bonfire pit.  Always a good time at the Legendary Banked Slalom!

Thanks everyone in our cabin crew for a good time.  Cory Smith, Spencer Cordovano, Nate Farrell, Pat Lee, Jeremy Black, Taylor Carlton, John Kaiser, Tami Harrison, Shayne Pospisil, Ryan Romer, Zach Venzon.
